Eddy-Current Brakes - Benefits
When you need to power down heavy duty equipment, machinery or even some modes of transportation (such as trains), Eddy-current brakes provide controlled deceleration by braking at variable speeds. These slow gradually to give a smooth response without contact between the moving and stationary parts. These types of brakes eliminate shock loading and help to reduce wear and tear on equipment. You have the choice of air-cooled or liquid-cooled Eddy-current brakes, which is dependent on the application. Some applications that may benefit by using these types of brakes include cranes (overhead type), centrifuges, load braking and dynamometer testing.
